ITSANA Ceramica

Ceramics with Ana

Portugal is still the place of many traditional olarias, those traditional ateliers work with barro, the local red clay, and use timeless techniques that started in the Antiquity, with the Phoenicians and the making of the amphoraes. Ana, the Brazilian founder of ANA - Handmade Ceramics, is perpetuating this tradition but with contemporary edge, she hand moulds beautiful pieces that you can find in our store. Using white clay and a minimalist approach, her 3-hour class includes a tutorial about the pinch pot technique and the moulding of unique pieces, either decorative or utilitarian (such as mugs, bowls, and others). Ana will guide you on how to handle the high-temperature clay and help you through the modelling process. The pieces created will be stored at Ana’s studio until they dry (up to 15 days are required), and will be then fired and glazed by the ceramist.
