Palm Basket Weaving

The 'Empreita de palma' is a centuries old tradition of the Algarve, using the naturally growing palm leaves, drying them, braiding & sewing them, making it an incredibly strong material. Roman soldiers were using this strong weaved material during Antiquity as sandals´ soles. The beautiful Algarvian baskets, that you can find in your rooms, are all made using this technique.

With Ysaline of Atelier Balance, a Belgian architect living on the West Coast of Algarve, you will discover the technique behind this millenary craft, and make your own little basket.

Over the 4 hour workshop, Ysaline will teach you the different steps of 'Empreita de palma', from braiding the palm leaves to sewing them into the basket.
