Laurie is a Textile Designer based in Hackney, East London. Although Laurie’s core study is textiles, she can also be viewed as a multidisciplinary artist, spreading into mediums such as printmaking, drawing, painting and photography. She explores and responds to the relationship between texture, colour and shape mostly based on abstract form but also sometimes observational, figurative matter. With an obsession for slow made/hand made process Laurie focuses on the importance of traditional craft and workmanship within the UK.
Hand embroidery & appliqué wall hanging workshop It is a great introduction to working with fabric, hand embroidery and appliqué. Laurie will begin with a short introduction into her practice; talking through her approach to the organising of shapes, colour combinations, fabric choice and embroidery techniques. A short lesson on sampling different hand embroidery techniques that will then be put into practice on your final wall hanging, followed by a quick run through on marrying colours.
